January 17th, 2010Help demand that our friends at the Jordan, Jesse, Go podcast come to Oaxaca. You may remember Español Interactivo advertised on their podcast a while back. I would be great to see them perform here, and maybe try out their Spanish!

The Three Kings Are Coming!
January 6th, 2010![]()
Forget Santa! Here in Mexico, the presents are brought today by los Reyes Magos, or, the Three Wise Men. Of course, most Mexican kids get presents for Christmas too so, doubly lucky.
Turkey Mole
December 17th, 2009
The students are often asking us, "Hey, do Mexicans eat turkey at Christmas?" Some do, although you'll find the ones in Oaxaca are often not exactly plump and juicy. Personally, I like a good bacalao, reflecting our Spanish roots, at Christmas but, for those of you who HAVE to have a turkey...
Here's a recipe from the El Sol de la Costa (Puerto Escondido) website for Turkey Mole. Some of the chiles you may need to get at a Mexican or Latin American grocery store.
Day of the Dead, Colorado style
October 25th, 2009With Day of the Dead just around the corner here in Oaxaca, we celebrate people all over the world getting into the spirit:
One of our former students, Nathan, and some of his colleagues, have set up a Day of the Dead altar at their office. It's in honor of Nederland, Colorado's own "Frozen Dead Guy", Bredo Morsteol:

Nathan assures us that people in the office have been adding goods to the altar, including some fruit and, more importantly, a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon. ¡Salud!
Simón Dice
August 20th, 2009You may know this game as "Simon Says". Brother and sister Ties and Jesse (6 and 4 years old) follow their teacher's instructions:
See if you can follow along at home! Warning: there may be some yelling (gritando) involved...
